The Staff of St Luke's Church, Orchards

David Edwards was born in Zambia and is married to Bridget. They have three grown up sons.

His previous ministry was at Bez Valley. Prior to being ordained David was in the financial services industry for thirty years. His last full time position was as managing director of Hannover Reinsurance Africa Limited.

Allan grew up in Pretoria (when it was still Pretoria) when it was a small city and neighbourly. He attended a variety of educational institutions in various languages (German, English, Afrikaans - Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Reformed, couldn't care) and spent some time working in the old ISCOR works in Pretoria eating metal dust in the air.

Born and bred in Johannesburg, Sally was educated at Roedean before graduating from Wits University with a B.A. She is married to Michael and they have 3 children. After the youngest started school, Sally worked in a bookshop before joining an accounting firm as a secretary. She left there just in time to answer Jerry’s cry for help and has been his personal assistant for the past 10 years.

Richard Hatfield is the Parish Manager. He is a Jo'burger through and through, having been born in Sydenham and brought up in Oaklands.

He is an engineer(metallurgical) by training (he spent 35 years in the manufacturing industry) and a DIY enthusiast of necessity.

He's married to Pat. They have 3 adult children and 4 grandchildren.

Shirley is a Jo’burg girl – born, bred and raised. Married to Clive, with 3 daughters she has learned a lot about patience.

She has been a member of St. Luke’s since 1964, so although she doesn’t yet have a ‘silver halo’, she is one of the ‘oldies’ here. As a result she knows almost everyone in the Parish.

Maureen has been a member of St Luke’s since 1990. Since then she has been actively involved in the life and ministry of the parish, in addition to outside ministry – she was Chairperson of the Mission to Seafarers – and to running her own business.

Maria was born in Potgietersrus where she matriculated. She trained as a secretary before coming to Johannesburg and finding employment at St Luke’s in 1997. Her duties are many and varied, and her cheerfulness is a great blessing.

She is a trained Anglicare Counsellor. Maria has 2 daughters at school in Johannesburg.

Janette was born in Milngavie [pron. Milgui] in Scotland. She attended Glasgow University where she obtained a degree in French and German , followed by Social Science. She worked in a hospital for 3 years.

She then spent 26 years in Israel as a Pastoral Worker with The Churches Ministry among the Jews. She lived through tremendous times of joy and sorrow whilst there.

Jan has worked on the property at St Luke's for the past 23 years. Born in Potgietersrus, one of a family of 11 children, he attended school before coming to Johannesburg to work.
He is married to Agnes and they have one daughter who attends Waverley Girls High School. He is a keen supporter of Kaizer Chiefs Football Team.
Ephraim was born in 1977 in Hamanskraal. He was educated there and came to Johannesburg in 2000. He joined St Luke's in 2004. He recently celebrated the birth of his first child, Ofentse.

Carol has been imported from Lyndhurst Baptist Church. She loves classical music and goes to the Symphony Concerts at every opportunity. She did two years of training at the Bible Institute in Kalk Bay. She has enthusiastically thrown herself into our Anglican celebrations and is a joy to have in the office.
