Bulletin Highlights (11 July '10)

Today we remember the work of the Anglican Church's oldest industrial mission, the Mission to Seafarers, which cares for all seafarers who use South African ports, and also operates  worldwide.  Why do we need to care for seafarers?  90% of all we use in our homes, schools and workplaces is still brought to us by sea so we depend on them.  Seafarers and their ships are often at great risk - not just from pirates who board their ships to steal cargo, but also from the weather and the risk of ships in poor condition.  They are away from their families for long periods and are vulnerable in many different ways.   We have chaplains and Flying Angel Clubs in every  port to meet their needs.

Our cash offerings today will go towards the work of MTS: we ask you to give generously! as did the Good Samaritan

Collect for Seafarers

Almighty God,

You led your people through the sea,

and made a path for them in deep waters:

be near all those who face the dangers of the seas;

protect them from disaster, help them on their way,

and bring them safely to their desired haven with hearts thankful for Your mercy.

For Jesus Christ's sake

Amen

Winter is here and more and more hungry people are coming for sandwiches on a Tuesday. CAN YOU HELP?

Make a loaf of sandwiches (peanut butter) and drop it off a the office any day-can be frozen and used when needed OR please phone Shirley/Maria at the office to see if you can fit into the current roster of regular makers.

Donations of ingredients (or in kind) will also be gladly received.

Contacting the office . .

Please let us know if you are ill or going in to hospital, or if you are aware of this in someone else.  Please do not assume that we know, sometimes we don't.  We would rather be told more than once than find out afterwards.

PRESS-ON  Ironing Service every Monday

As many are aware, Press-On is an initiative started to give work to unemployed people.  The ladies ‘employed' by Press-On rely on the money they make on a Monday-and that money is dependant on the amount of laundry brought in to be ironed.  At the moment they have very little work and are therefore not earning much money.  If you know of any potential customers-please tell them about Press-On -

» Drop off washed and dried laundry on Monday mornings between 07h30 and 10h00

» R 10 per kilo

» Collect (usually) the same day, either at lunch time or at 16h30.

Humour

Four Surgeons are taking a coffee break .........

1st surgeon says: "Accountants are the best to operate on because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered."

2nd surgeon says: "Nah, librarians are the best. Everything inside them is in alphabetical order.

3rd responds: "Try electricians, man! Everything inside them is colour coded."

To which the 4th surgeon, who has been quietly listening to the conversation, says: "I like engineers... they always understand when you have a few parts left over at the end."
