Bulletin Highlights (18 July '10)
Most people know the anxiety of preparing for an inspection of our work, whether that is a routine evaluation, a test or exam, or a performance review. Unless we want to provoke confrontation, we usually try to prove our worth by our performance and we want to "get a good mark". We want to impress people so that they will pay us more, admire us, or just accord us a higher status. That's how the world works.
So, we figure that that's how it works in the Kingdom of God as well: we try to impress God and make Him like us more. We know that it's not possible - the Scriptures remind us of that again and again, but we are so indoctrinated in the world's ways that we continue to try.
It seems so difficult to grasp that God invites us to join Him in His work in His universe just because it pleases Him - and yet, when we grasp that, we break through into a new way of seeing life and reality and our place in God's love - and we become free to live with God.Allan

Thursday Morning Eucharist
Anxiety is an all-too-common feature of modern life but, as always, the Bible has a solution. Psalm 23, the best known portion of the Bible, is an amazingly rich source of comfort for us, and clearly shows us how to place our burdens at the foot of the cross of Christ who promises to give us rest.
David will be preaching a series on Psalm 23 at the 9:30 Eucharist service every Thursday for the next few weeks. The service is normally over by 10:15, but some stay for tea afterwards. Do come if you can make some time available on Thursdays. You will be very welcome.
eco note-an ‘air' thought

Please let us know if you are ill or going in to hospital, or if you are aware of this in someone else. Please do not assume that we know, sometimes we don't. We would rather be told more than once than find out afterwards.
PRESS-ON Ironing Service every Monday
As many are aware, Press-On is an initiative started to give work to unemployed people. The ladies ‘employed' by Press-On rely on the money they make on a Monday-and that money is dependant on the amount of laundry brought in to be ironed. At the moment they have very little work and are therefore not earning much money. If you know of any potential customers-please tell them about Press-On -
» Drop off washed and dried laundry on Monday mornings between 07h30 and 10h00
» R 10 per kilo
» Collect (usually) the same day, either at lunch time or at 16h30.

Humour
"Thomas"
A man in a supermarket was pushing a cart which contained, among other things, a screaming baby.
As the man proceeded along the aisles, he kept repeating softly, "Keep calm, Thomas. Don't get excited, Thomas. Don't yell, Thomas."
A lady watched with admiration and then said, "You are certainly to be commended for your patience in trying to quiet little Thomas."
"Lady," he declared, "I'M THOMAS!"
