Theme:  The Cost of Following Jesus

Thursday this week we remembered the birth of John the Baptist.  There is much we don't know about him but clearly God gave him a prophetic call:  "the Word of God came to John" and all knew that "the Lord's hand is with him".    He spoke of Jesus - whom he knew was the Messiah - as "the One  whose sandals I am not worthy to tie".  His job was "to make ready a people  prepared for the Lord".

He focused on that job - he had little time for civic authorities "the axe is laid to the root of the tree", or for hypocritical religious teachers "a brood of vipers"

That was John, but what about you?  What is God calling you to do in the building of His Kingdom on earth?  It's a costly business - John was killed because he spoke the truth to Herod.  We don't have to die - or maybe we do:  die to self.  Jesus said, "Follow Me - and I will make you fishers of men"

Food for the homeless

When the weather is so cold it is wonderful to be able to give the homeless people who come for sandwiches on Tuesdays a tin to take away with them.

We can only give out what we get in so we would really encourage you to bring a tin of baked beans or pilchards or something similar with you to church on Sundays and drop it in the basket at the back.  Help us to bless others!.

eco did you know?

SAFCEI is an institute of people of many faiths, united in diversity through our common commitment to earth keeping. Our aim is to support faith communities in fulfilling their environmental & socio-economic responsibility. Bishop Geoff Davies, South Africa's ‘Green Bishop', was Environmentalist of the Year in 2009, and represents Anglicans on the SAFCEI Management Committee.

The Most Reverend Thabo Makgobo, the Metropolitan of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, said on Good Friday 2010, ‘the stark truth is that creation itself is a battle-ground for God's kingdom - at the hands of the most destructive elements of selfish, greedy, short-sighted, sinful humanity. ... [and] God calls us to be part of the solution, not part of the problem - part of the coming of the kingdom, partners in his working of redemption and salvation.'

PRESS-ON  Ironing Service every Monday

As many are aware, Press-On is an initiative started to give work to unemployed people.  The ladies ‘employed' by Press-On rely on the money they make on a Monday-and that money is dependant on the amount of laundry brought in to be ironed.  At the moment they have very little work and are therefore not earning much money.  If you know of any potential customers-please tell them about Press-On -

» Drop off washed and dried laundry on Monday mornings between 07h30 and 10h00

» R 10 per kilo

» Collect (usually) the same day, either at lunch time or at 16h30.
