Bulletin Highlights (8 August '10)
Faith leads to Hope:
If we do not have faith in God we find ourselves being excessively anxious. This could lead either to paralysing fear - or a desire to control. We end up thinking about ourselves, our future, and our problems. That keeps us from loving and from being the people God created us to be.
Faith in God is the foundation of hope, and hope is the birthplace of the self-sacrificial love that we need to equip us to live the lives God intended for us.

A Big Thank You to all involved in making last week's Christmas Dinner such a success. We had a wonderful 3 course meal, starting with Butternut Soup, followed by roast Turkey, roast Brisket, roast potatoes, veggies and gravy and ended with a delicious baked pudding and custard.
A special thanks must go to Christine Mills who put the evening together, Charmaine Rayment who entertained us with music, Revd. Lihai Bercovich who gave an excellent talk, Wendy Berman who helped with the table decorations, Cynthia and her team who did the catering, and last but not least the waitrons, who brought us our food and collected our plates when we were finished. So thanks to Bianca Adams, Tevin Davis, Natalie Lacy, Allistar Mahlangu and Kenneth Ramakgopha who worked very hard, and did a fabulous job!
Coming up
Thursday Morning Eucharist
Anxiety is an all-too-common feature of modern life but, as always, the Bible has a solution. Psalm 23, the best known portion of the Bible, is an amazingly rich source of comfort for us, and clearly shows us how to place our burdens at the foot of the cross of Christ who promises to give us rest.
David will be preaching a series on Psalm 23 at the 9:30 Eucharist service every Thursday for the next few weeks. The service is normally over by 10:15, but some stay for tea afterwards. Do come if you can make some time available on Thursdays. You will be very welcome.
Alpha ~ Have you signed up yet? Course starts Wednesday 11 August
This is one place to come and find answers to questions we all ask at some stage, like:
- What is the point of life?
- What happens when we die?
- What relevance does Jesus have for our lives today?
- What does the Bible say?
If you have never been on an Alpha Course, come you will not regret it!! Encourage your friends and also you co-workers-they won't be sorry!!
Applications available from the back of the church-or from an Alpha Representative.

Please let us know if you are ill or going in to hospital, or if you are aware of this in someone else. Please do not assume that we know, sometimes we don't. We would rather be told more than once than find out afterwards.
PRESS-ON Ironing Service every Monday
As many are aware, Press-On is an initiative started to give work to unemployed people. The ladies ‘employed' by Press-On rely on the money they make on a Monday-and that money is dependant on the amount of laundry brought in to be ironed. At the moment they have very little work and are therefore not earning much money. If you know of any potential customers-please tell them about Press-On -
» Drop off washed and dried laundry on Monday mornings between 07h30 and 10h00
» R 10 per kilo
» Collect (usually) the same day, either at lunch time or at 16h30.

"Away From His Desk"
As the boss was leaving the office to play golf, he instructed his secretary to tell all callers that he was away from his desk.
Shortly after he left, a member of his foursome called to find out which course they were playing that day. The loyal girl would only reply that her boss was away from his desk.
"Just tell me," the golfer persisted, "is he five miles away from his desk, twenty miles away from his desk, or thirty miles away from his desk?"
