Parish Council Members

David Edwards was born in Zambia and is married to Bridget. They have three grown up sons.

His previous ministry was at Bez Valley. Prior to being ordained David was in the financial services industry for thirty years. His last full time position was as managing director of Hannover Reinsurance Africa Limited.

Allan grew up in Pretoria (when it was still Pretoria) when it was a small city and neighbourly. He attended a variety of educational institutions in various languages (German, English, Afrikaans - Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Reformed, couldn't care) and spent some time working in the old ISCOR works in Pretoria eating metal dust in the air.

Born in Nairobi, Kenya. My father was an adventurous Swiss with a passion for Africa and my mother was born in South West Africa, now Namibia - also with a great curiosity for new places - so we travelled extensively across East and Southern Africa.

George is a retired businessman. Married to Val, they have a son and a daughter, both of whom are married, and a number of grandchildren. He has:

"too many interests for my own good!”

I am a Quantity Surveyor for Group Five Civil Engineering. I grew up in Joburg but have spent most of my working life on various contracts in South Africa and Southern Africa. I am now based at our head office in Bedfordview.

I enjoy most outdoor activities, especially gardening, walking, birding, star gazing and game viewing.

Terry is a family man married to Diana, who has been a member of St. Luke's all her life. We have two teenage kids and as a family we view St. Luke's as our extended family, our friends and our community.

My name is Penny Metcalf, my car registration number is TNT and I am always teased about the way I drive my motorised wheelchair. I cannot sneak around anywhere because of the chair so I have millions of acquaintances and get easily mixed up with people's names! So bear with me!

I graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand as a speech, language and hearing therapist.

Richard Hatfield is the Parish Manager. He is a Jo'burger through and through, having been born in Sydenham and brought up in Oaklands.

He is an engineer(metallurgical) by training (he spent 35 years in the manufacturing industry) and a DIY enthusiast of necessity.

He's married to Pat. They have 3 adult children and 4 grandchildren.

Maureen has been a member of St Luke’s since 1990. Since then she has been actively involved in the life and ministry of the parish, in addition to outside ministry – she was Chairperson of the Mission to Seafarers – and to running her own business.

Janette was born in Milngavie [pron. Milgui] in Scotland. She attended Glasgow University where she obtained a degree in French and German , followed by Social Science. She worked in a hospital for 3 years.

She then spent 26 years in Israel as a Pastoral Worker with The Churches Ministry among the Jews. She lived through tremendous times of joy and sorrow whilst there.

Richard is the founder, chairman and chief executive of US based AMFA Foundation Inc. and is also the founder, chairman and chief executive of Affordable Medicines For Africa (AMFA). AMFA is a South African Section 21 not-for-gain organisation supplying essential generic medicines to Christian mission hospitals throughout sub-Saharan Africa.

David Butcher was born in Durban and went to Michaelhouse (like most of the males in his family!). After a spell in England at University, training as an accountant and finding his wife Jean he returned with her to Johannesburg. (Durban was too hot and muggy).

Sue is passionate about music and what it means in the life of any group. She made it her aim to learn saxophone and play in a band before she was 50 and she just made it! She loves working with the parishioners at St Luke's who have been very friendly and supportive of all blupses!

Sue Tinsley has been married to Roger for nearly 33 years and they have three grownup children who are all married. Sue is a Counselling Psychologist in her own busy practice and really feels privileged to do the job she does and enjoys her work.

David has 6 grandchildren, a son and twin daughters and was married to Lyndsay at St. Luke's in 1969, having lived in Johannesburg for most of his life. He was educated at St. John's College.

David has many interests including reading, military history, classical music, public speaking, photography and cricket.
